Date of Funding: January 2008

The sponsoring NGO (EDUCA) explained that the priority needs of three earthquake-affected dirt poor villages were the building of new schools, basic educational modules with school materials, and psychological therapy for teachers and students to deal with the devastation of the quake of August 2007.

These needs were being taken care of by EDUCA with financial support from organizations in Canada, Liechtenstein, and Spain. The 1% Fund assisted specifically with the provision of 14 tables and 28 chairs for 28 students in each of the schools in the three villages. Locals are doing the rebuilding of the schools and the furniture was made by local young carpenters in training from Huancavelica.

A good part of the grant provided transportation of the furniture, which was of extreme importance as the villages were remote and off paved roads.
